Competition Main Features and Events

The Beaver competition was born in Lithuania, by an idea of Prof. Valentina Dagiene.
The first Bebras contest was organized in Lithuania in 2004.

One of Valentina Dagiene's goals was to establish Bebras as an international initiative. Since its beginnings, several European countries have joined Bebras, and other countries from all over the world declared their interest in the idea, too.

The following countries organize their own Bebras contest and hence participate in the Bebras initiative:

      Austria Austria (2008: 4.000 participants)
      Estonia Estonia (2008: 4.039 participants)
      Germany Germany (2008: 53.602 participants)
      Latvia Latvia (2008: 700 participants)
      Lithuania Lithuania (2008: 6.616 participants)
Netherlands The Netherlands (2008: 5.120 participants)
      Poland Poland (2008: 8.725 participants)
      Slovakia Slovakia (2008: 9.318 participants)

The first event planned for 2009 is the meeting to be held in Lithuania.
